Thannal is a Kerala-style home located within Ferns Residency, a serene gated community in Bangalore. Spanning 7,000 square feet, the residence takes its name from the Malayalam word for shade or shelter, expressing a sanctuary that offers comfort, cultural continuity, and a strong connection to nature.
The architecture blends traditional Kerala aesthetics with modern design principles through exposed brick, concrete finishes, and a signature charupadi element, while landscaped edges strengthen the home’s relationship with its setting.
Inside, brick and stone walls are balanced with rich teak veneer, and a double-height living-dining volume draws in natural light, complemented by pendant lighting and a chandelier that add quiet sophistication.
Bedrooms open toward garden views, with cane wardrobes reinforcing the project’s eco-conscious material language. Kota stone flooring, selective patterned tiles, and curated art installations complete a home that balances tradition, sustainability, and contemporary living.
