This home, Madhuram, is designed by Montimers Architects in association with The Chettinad Homes, and celebrates vernacular architecture rooted in the warmth, craftsmanship, and cultural richness of traditional South Indian homes.
The exterior combines natural stone cladding, exposed brick, teak details, a traditional charupadi, and sloping Mangalorean-tile roofs to create a timeless regional identity with strong climatic responsiveness.
The entry sequence is defined by cement-and-teak pillars and a passage laid with traditional Chettinad tiles, while a carved teak main door and patterned jaali partitions establish a richly detailed threshold experience.
Inside, laterite stone cladding, traditional teak furniture, a central sunken courtyard, and a fountain-facing Buddha focal point create a calm, naturally ventilated interior where heritage elements are integrated with everyday comfort.
